August Festivals World 2011 August 2011 has officially arrived which means a month of world festivals to look forward to. Today alone, August 1st, is the celebration of Swiss National day as well as Yorkshire day. If you’re not Swiss or from Yorkshire– never fear. There are plenty of other international events to look forward to in the upcoming month. Some are day-long, others are week-long. August is a month of celebrations and festivals which certainly range in every way possible. Whether it has to do with music, food, alcohol or even body parts– the month of August has a going on. Let’s take a look at some of the festivals people are celebrating this month. August Festivals World 2011 Even if you wanted to travel and see all of the month’s festivals it probably wouldn’t be possible. There are just too many to count. Below, however, I tried to include some of the ones I thought were either the funniest or most fun. International Beer Day is August 5th, which is no wonder consider how many beer festivals are in August in Germany. There’s the Berlin Beer Festival in the first week of August along with the Hamburger Dom Beer festival and the Kulmbacher Beer festival . If beer’s not your thing, consider checking out the Nava Cider Festival in Asturias, Spain. Lollapalooza is traditionally in the first week of August and this year it begins on August 5th and goes to the 7th. Another fun and famous festival to check out is the Edinburgh Fringe festival. A weird and wacky festival celebrated within the month of August is the Testicle Festival in Montana where they eat bull testicles and allegedly, ‘have a ball’. August Festivals World 2011 There’s the Air Guitar Championships in Finland towards the end of the month. Elvis Week in Memphis that on average gets 10,000 impersonators a year. They also have free screenings of his movies and a candle light vigil. For those looking for love, why not check out the Matchmaking Festival in Lisdoonvarna in Ireland? Do you consider yourself decent at the art of snorkeling? Why not head on over to Wales to compete in the World Bog Snorkeling Championships ? Wet suits are option. Ah, yes. August surely does have a lot going on for it. It’s the last month of summer vacation for students and the last really warm month for many people in the North. I personally am a fan of cooler whether, so for me August is nice because it means fall is just around the corner.
